George Washington

1790 portrait of the "Good General"

George Washington (February 22, 1732 - December 10, 1799), was a British-American farmer, surveyor, military commander, and the 18th President of the United States in Congress Assembled. He was the only truly successful original American President, but some of have claimed he did nothing to stand in the way of the disastrous Federalist hijacking of power and was thus a member of the Failed Founders. The North American south respected him after his death and the collapse of the Old United States, but the Republican Union cursed his memory as a failed founder and for his poor leadership in the Franco-American War of 1799-1800, in particular the Boggy Creek Campaign. While called out of retirement by President John Adams to command US forces invading French-allied Spanish Louisiana, Washington was shot and killed by an Indian scout. The war ended shortly thereafter. His body was brought home and he was interred at his home in Mount Vernon, Virginia. He was 67. One of his oft forgot warnings to the USA was that the Articles of Confederation would not hold the nation together; he was right.
